Please welcome Arlotta Food as a new weekly vendor. They’re bringing first cold pressed olive oil from their own family groves in California, balsamic vinegar, and starting next week – fresh made pasta. Make sure you stop by and sample the fabulous flavored oils. Yum!
Last week I picked up Blowfish Tails from our fishmonger Hudson Valley Seafood. Casey assured me that the poisonous kind of puffer fish are only caught off the coast of Japan. It’s been a couple of days since I ate them and so far so good!
These puffers were caught off the coast of Montauk. Casey thinks that they taste like chicken wings. I would say that they taste more like Cod or Whiting, but meatier. My assessment: they’re delicious! I chose to cook each tail just as I would have done shrimp tails – a quick breading of egg, flour, egg, panko, then fry them in hot oil until brown. Each tail has one thin bone down the center, and there’s a lot of meat.
Here are pics of prep, and the finished product served with cocktail sauce. I highly recommend trying the Blowfish Tails. You can find them at the Hudson Valley Seafood stand on Bank Street near the corner of Park Street.
We received rave reviews of last week’s new vendor Nana’s Home Kitchen! We’re happy to say that they will be back on Bank Street every other week. We’ll see them again on September 30th.
