Cooperstown Cheese Recall – Please Read

COOPERSTOWN CHEESE RECALL NOTICE

Out of an abundance of caution, we are advising market-goers that Cooperstown Cheese Co. LLC, has recalled some of their cheese products that tested positive for listeria.

These cheeses were sold at locations across New York State including the Peekskill Farmers Market on September 9 and 16, 2017. Consumers with questions about the recalled product may contact Cooperstown Cheese at 978-257-4635.

The recalled cheeses are: Toma Celena “Raw Milk Alpine Table Cheese” with plant number 36-8524 and an additional code of 51017 and “Roasted Garlic Cheddar” code 60617. Anyone who still has Roasted Garlic Cheddar or Toma Celena should dispose of them immediately.  All package styles and sizes with these codes are subject to the recall.

No known illnesses have been reported to the New York State Agricultural Department and Markets through October 13, 2017.

It could, however, take up to 70 days after exposure for symptoms to appear.

Listeria may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Healthy adults may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infections may also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Anyone who consumed the cheese and are concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

Additional concerns or questions can be directed to the Westchester County Department of Health at (914) 813-5000.

We’d like to share with our market shoppers this letter from the owners of Cooperstown Cheese:

Dear customers of the Peekskill Farmer’s Market,

Cheese is our life’s passion. Customers are our lifeline. And we love coming to the Peekskill Farmer’s Market. That’s why we wanted to share our mutual concern.

Because we dearly appreciate all of the customers who patronize Cooperstown Cheese Company, we wanted to make you aware of our voluntary recall of some of cheese products sold at the Peekskill Farmers Market on September 9 and 16, 2017.

During routine testing of our products by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets we discovered some of our products contained listeria. Bob and I, as owners, want to apologize to our valued customers and to assure you that we are taking all appropriate steps to make sure this does not happen again.

Our top priority is to bring fresh, safe cheese to market and we are as concerned about this as much as you are. We are working diligently to institute new quality controls steps and testing procedures.

The recalled cheeses are: Toma Celena “Raw Milk Alpine Table Cheese” with plant number 36-8524 and an additional code of 51017 and “Roasted Garlic Cheddar” code 60617. If you have either of them, please dispose of them immediately. All package styles and sizes with these codes are subject to the recall. If you would like to speak to us directly, please fee free to call us at 978-257-4635.

No known illnesses have been reported to the New York State Agricultural Department and Markets through October 13, 2017. It could, however, take up to 70 days after exposure for symptoms to appear. Anyone who consumed the cheese and is concerned about his or her health should seek medical advice.

We are working with the appropriate agencies and hope to be back at the market to serve our customers soon. Upon our return, we will have nothing at your market that is not safe and healthy. Please accept our apologies and let us have the opportunity to regain your trust.

Yours in cheese,
Sharon and Bob

October 14th At The Market

This week I made my version of the Westchester Magazine photo of the Aesop’s Fable burger served on a Dam Good English Muffin – best burger ever! My version is made with Arch River 100% grass fed ground beef, melted Scamorza from Mozzarella4U, and heirloom organic tomatoes from Eight Mile Creek Farm. Come down to the market and build your own burger!

We’re thrilled to now be serving prepared foods! In addition to their delicious fresh fish, Hudson Valley Seafood is now serving Raw Bar and hot Hudson Valley Clam Chowder.  And please visit Amal from Irvington Delight. Get some of mama’s home cooking right from Jordan. Falefel, Chicken Schwarma, Lamb Gyros, fresh hummus (mint is my favorite), and spinach pie.

Monthly vendor Jeneric Bags is here on the block with best in show, award winning quilted bags, doll clothes, and other items that you really need.

Austin Charnis is playing classical guitar at the market today from 11am until 2pm.
